* 5th Place Overall... 9:59 (2M) split... got stuck behind 100+ runners at the start, but tried to maintain composure and move up through the field. Right away I knew this was a much more competitive field, because I was working and not passing quickly. By the mile, I moved up alongside past champ and BU alum Mitch Sanders, but I moved past him quickly working on a "Ryan" in an adidas singlet chasing down the leader that went out flying. I moved into third before the 2 mile mark, holding off a Soler's Sports runner, but right at the 2M flag, my legs were done. My right calf was tight and I felt done, stride starting to chop, but I started to dig and I woke up when Brant Lutz (coach) passed me and I knew this guy was older than me, and I said, no way. I tucked in behind him and started working and jumped on my kick about 600m from the line, perhaps too early, but I had to get a gap. Someone flew past me with 250m remaining but I couldn't match his speed and ran thru the line in 15:43. Fastest time on this course. Ran 15:47 losing to Sanders in 2009, I think. Also ran 15:45 but on a different and long course when I won in 2004. Great start to the year. Need to keep it going.
